Vietnam: Undisclosed documents on naming of islands are State secrets classified as “confidential”

This is a notable content of the Decision No. 1660/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister of Vietnam promulgating the List of state secrets in the field of natural resources and environment, issued on October 26, 2020.

Specifically, according to Clause 4 Article 2 of the Decision No. 1660/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister of Vietnam, State secrets classified as “confidential” regarding sea and islands include:

- Undisclosed written requests for guidelines of the Communist Party or State about extraction and use of natural resources, protection of environment of sea and islands in the deep sea, and new natural resources of great importance for socio-economic development, assurance of national defense and security;

- Undisclosed coordinates, reserves and natural resources of class 333 or higher of precious metal and precious stone ores in shallow sea waters;

- Undisclosed data and documents on national marine spatial planning and amendments thereof, and master plan for sustainable extraction and use of coastal resources relating to national defense and security;

- Undisclosed documents on scientific grounds for naming of islands;
