The Government of Vietnam promulgated Decree No. 45/2022/ND-CP dated July 07, 2022 on administrative penalties for offences against environmental protection including addition of regulations on penalties for acts of throwing plastic bottles and plastic bags into rivers or lakes.
To be specific, a fine of from VND 01 million to VND 02 million is imposed for:
- Throwing wastes on sidewalks, roadways or into urban wastewater systems or surface drainage systems;
- Illegally dumping wastewater on sidewalks and roadways;
- Disposing of plastic wastes produced from daily activities to lakes, canals, rivers, streams and seas. (New contents)
Thus, a fine of up to VND 2 million will be imposed for throwing plastic bottles and plastic bags into rivers and lakes
In addition, fines for collecting and throwing wastes against regulations on environmental protection shall be remained. To be specific:
- A fine of from 100.000 VND to 150.000 VND will be imposed for throwing cigarette butts and tips at the wrong places of apartments, commercial districts and public places;
- A fine of from 150.000 VND to 250.000 VND will be imposed for urination or defecation at the wrong places of apartments, commercial districts and public places;
- A fine of from 500.000 VND to 1.000.000 VND will be imposed for throwing wastes or dumping wastewater at the wrong places of apartments, commercial districts and public places;
Decree No. 45/2022/ND-CP comes into force from August 25, 2022 and replaces Decree No. 155/2016/ND-CP and Decree No. 55/2021/ND-CP.
