Vietnam: The control over the origin of food strengthened after the incident of pork tapeworm infection

The Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam recently issued Official Dispatch 1074/BGDDT-GDTC to strengthen the direction of ensuring hygiene and food safety in educational institutions in Vietnam.

In recent times, at several educational institutions, there have been instances of students suffering from food poisoning, parasitic infections, etc., impacting student health. To address this situation, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) requests that provincial People’s Committees direct local educational institutions to:

- Strictly adhere to the regulations in the Law on Food Safety, Directive 13/CT-TTg, Joint Circular 13/2016/TTLT-BYT-BGDDT, Directive 4316/CT-BGDDT;

- Intensify the dissemination, education, and enhancement of responsibility among teachers and school staff regarding food safety and hygiene (FSH);

- Strictly control the origin of food and the processes of preparation and preservation, etc.; comply with the three-step inspection process for food delivery and sample retention of dishes;

- Enhance school hygiene to prevent and control infectious diseases;

- Increase education and guidance for children and students to comply with regulations on food safety and hygiene and personal hygiene;
