On October 19, 2023, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision 26/2023/QĐ-TTg amending the Appendix regulating the average incubation period and the time when no additional cases of infectious diseases are detected as a basis for declaring the end of an infectious disease epidemic issued together with the Decision 02/2016/QĐ-TTg in 2016.
Addition of groups, average incubation period, and time without detecting new cases of COVID-19 disease (formerly known as acute respiratory infection caused by a new strain of Coronavirus), as follows:
- COVID-19 disease group is group B;
- The average incubation period for COVID-19 is 4 days;
- The period of no new COVID-19 cases being detected is 8 days.
(The old regulations in Decision 07/2020/QD-TTg regulating the group, average incubation period, and time for no new cases to be detected for COVID-19 are specified as follows:
- COVID-19 disease group is group A;
- The average incubation period for COVID-19 is 14 days;
- The period of no new COVID-19 cases being detected is 28 days (time is calculated from the date the most recent case was quarantined at a medical facility)).
Thus, the average incubation period for COVID-19 decreased from 14 days to 4 days, and the time without detecting new COVID-19 cases decreased from 28 days to 8 days.
Decision 26/2023/QD-TTg takes effect on October 20, 2023.
