Vietnam’s Lunar New Year holiday schedule in 2024 for officials, public employees, and employees

To implement the directive of Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh in Official Dispatch No. 8662/VPCP-KGVX dated November 3, 2023 of the Office of the Government of Vietnam on the Lunar New Year Holiday and the National Day Holiday 2024 for officials, public employees, and employees, the Ministry of Labor - War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam notifies administrative authorities, public service providers, political organizations, socio-political organizations, enterprises, and other employers of the implementation of the Lunar New Year Holiday schedule in 2024 as follows:

- Regarding officials, public employees, and employees of administrative authorities, public service providers, political organizations, and socio-political organizations:

+ The Lunar New Year Holiday schedule in 2024 is from Thursday, February 8, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar to the end of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar (which is December 29 of the Moon calendar of the Year of the Cat to the end of January 5 of the Moon calendar of the Year of the Dragon).

+ The vacation period includes 5 days of the Lunar New Year Holiday and 2 days off as the compensatory days off for the weekly holidays according to Clause 3 Article 11 of the Labor Code.

- Regarding employees of private zones:

+ Employers shall decide on the scheme for the Lunar New Year Holiday 2024 as follows: Select 1 day at the end of the Year of the Cat and 4 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon or 2 days at the end of the Year of the Cat and 3 days at the beginning of the Year or the Dragon or 3 days at the end of the Year of the Cat and 2 days at the beginning of the Year of the Dragon; and

+ Notify employees of the scheme for the Lunar New Year Holiday schedule 2024 before implementation at least 30 days in advance.  

+ Employers are encouraged to apply the Lunar New Year Holiday schedule applicable to officials and public employees.
