Vietnam: New list of OTC drugs

This is a notable content mentioned in Circular No. 07/2017/TT-BYT on the promulgation of list of OTC (Over The Counter) drugs that was issued on May 03, 2017 by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam.

There are 243 active ingredients in the list of OTC modern drugs and biologicals. In comparison with current regulations, there is a decrease of 7 active ingredients.

Rules for compiling List of OTC drugs

- Ensure safety for drug users;

- Ensure people’s timely access to OTC drugs;

- Conform to the reality of use and supply of drugs in Vietnam;

- Be harmonized with rules and regulations on classification of OTC drugs announced by the States in the region and the world.

Moreover, the list of OTC drugs also includes:

- Herbal drugs, traditional drugs;

- Traditional ingredients that are not manufactured or made of herbal ingredients on the List of toxic herbal ingredients.

Detailed list of OTC drugs can be found in Circular No. 07/2017/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, which takes effect from July 01, 2017 and replaces Circular No. 23/2014/TT-BYT.
