Vietnam: Ministry of Information and Communications strengthens handling of fake news and false news about Covid-19

On July 23, Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam issued Official Dispatch No. 2765/BTTTT-PTTH&TTĐT on the implementation of Resolution No. 78/NQ-CP of the Government and strengthening handling of fake news and false news about Covid-19 on the Internet.

Accordingly, in order to effectively implement Resolution 78/NQ-CP; promptly correct the spread of fake news and false information about the epidemic situation and the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Ministry of Information and Communications proposes to Ministries, Ministerial-level agencies, agencies attached to the Government, People's Committees of provinces and cities implement the following contents, for example:

- Strictly comply with regulations on statements and information provision to the press;

Appoint a spokesperson, proactively provide information, in all situations, ensure that information is provided as quickly as possible, not passively, unexpectedly, comply with speech discipline, unify the focal point of speech, avoid situations the same incident, but branches and localities spoke inconsistently, leading to interference and distortion.

In case the Ministry, branch or locality has an unexpected incident or an unusual incident, it is recommended to provide initial information to the press no later than 2 hours from the time the incident arises…

Strengthen scanning and timely detection of fake and false news about the epidemic situation and epidemic prevention and control at Ministries, branches and localities;...
