Vietnam: List of medicines for outpatient treatment at home for persons infected with COVID-19

On August 26, 2021, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Decision 4109/QD-BYT on temporary guidelines for “List of medicines for outpatient treatment at home for persons infected with COVID-19”.

According to Vietnam's Decision 4109/QD-BYT, groups of medicine in the List include:

1. Antipyretic, analgesic drugs: Paracetamol: for children: powder package or pellets mixed with drinking solution with 80 mg, 100mg, 150 mg, or 250 mg; for adults: 250 mg or 500 mg tablet

2. Medicine for balancing electrolytes: Oresol solution, other rehydration and electrolyte solutions

3. Medicine for boosting health and resistance: Vitamix mix containing at least: Vitamin B1, B6, and B12; Vitamin C (may include zinc); Vitamin D

4. Throat disinfectant

- Sodium Chlorite (0.9% solution or pellet blending in salt water)

- Other throat disinfectants

5. Antiviral drugs: Use according to clinical research outline approved by Ministry of Health or medicine package inserts once medicine is licensed for circulation in Vietnam

6. Corticosteroid anti-inflammatory medicine for oral adminsitration1: choose any of the following medicine:

- Dexamethasone 0.5 mg (tablet)

- Methylprednisolone 16 mg (tablet)

- Prednisolone 5 mg (tablet)

7. Anticoagulant for oral administration2: choose any of the following medicine:

- Rivaroxaban 10 mg (pill)

- Apixaban 2.5 mg (pill)

Vietnam's Decision 4109/QD-BYT takes effect from August 26, 2021.
