Vietnam: Guidance on housing criteria in Criteria of New Rural Communes

Recently, the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam issued Official Dispatch 2307/BXD-QHKT stipulating guidelines for the National Criteria for New Rural Areas at all levels for the 2021 period - 2025.

According to the Official Dispatch in Vietnam, rural houses in the 9th criteria in the Criteria of New Rural Communes must ensure "3 solid" (solid foundation, solid frame, and solid roof) as follows:

The foundation, frame, and roof parts of the house must be made from good quality materials and not from temporary, perishable, or flammable materials. Specifically:

- "Solid foundation" means that the foundation of a house must be made from materials that increase the solidity of the building, such as: cement-sand mortar, reinforced concrete, brick, stone;

- "Solid frame" includes:

+ Framework, columns, and walls, as well as supporting foundations;

+ Reinforced concrete, iron, steel, and solid wood are used to construct frames and columns.

+ Walls made of brick/stone or solid wood.

The term "solid roof" refers to both the roof support system and the roof itself.

Depending on specific conditions, the roof support system can be made from the following materials: reinforced concrete; iron; steel; sturdy wood.

The roof is made of reinforced concrete, tiled or roofed with good quality roofing sheets as mentioned at Point a of Section 2.

The Provincial People's Committees of Vietnam shall base themselves on specific local conditions.

In addition, rural houses must reach the minimum area:

- Plain: 14 m2/person or more;

- Midlands and mountainous areas: 10m2/person or more.

- Minimum area of ​​a house: 30m2 or more.

For single households: 18m2 or more.
