Vietnam: General examination for children before entering preschool

According to guidance of Circular No. 23/2017/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, children from birth to before entering preschool and children under 6 years old who do not go to school receive regular health checks at the commune health station.

Periodic health check-ups include general check-ups and health checks once a year to early detect diseases and risks of diseases for appropriate consultation, management or treatment, including:

- Measure length, height, and weight to evaluate physical development;

- Comprehensive examination to evaluate mental and motor development, detect diseases and unusual signs, and risk of disease;

- Check scheduled vaccinations and vaccinations in the Expanded Immunization Program for unvaccinated children who need them;

- Conclusion about health status, consultation and transfer to appropriate medical facility if illness or unusual signs or risks of disease are detected.
