Vietnam: Development of the National Database on Citizen Identification from now until 2022

Recently, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision 1368/QD-TTg regarding the approval of the investment guidelines for the project on production, issuance, and management of citizen identification.

The Prime Minister of Vietnam approves the investment guidelines for the project on production, issuance, and management of citizen identification with the following details:

Project objectives: To develop a unified National Database on Citizen Identification, implement the collection and automatic management of citizen identification registration data on an IT infrastructure basis, facilitate quick and convenient storage, retrieval, sharing, and information search; enhance the effectiveness of state management on citizen identification,...

Scale and investment contents: Develop a unified Citizen Identification system nationwide, deployed and centrally managed at the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, including:

- Hardware investment: Biometric recognition system, servers, workstations, peripheral devices, storage devices, security devices;

- Software investment: Commercial software, application software;

- Training services, infrastructure setup deployment.

Total investment for the project: 2,696 billion VND (funded by the State budget).

Implementation period: 2020 – 2022.
