Vietnam: Back-to-School schedule for the 2024-2025 school year for students nationwide

The Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued the schedule for the 2024 - 2025 academic year for preschool, primary, secondary, and continuing education nationwide as follows:

- Students can start attending school no earlier than 1 week before the opening ceremony. For grade 1, students can start attending school no earlier than 2 weeks before the opening ceremony.

- The opening ceremony will be held on September 5, 2024.

- The first semester will conclude no later than January 18, 2025, and the academic year will finish no later than May 31, 2025.

- The recognition of the completion of the primary education program and the recognition of graduation from lower secondary school should be completed no later than June 30, 2025.

- The enrollment for the beginning classes should be completed no later than July 31, 2025.

- The high school graduation exam for 2025 is expected to take place on June 26 and 27, 2025.

- Other national exams will be conducted according to the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Principles for developing the Academic Year Schedule for local authorities

- The academic year schedule for localities must ensure at least 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for the first semester and 17 weeks for the second semester).

- The academic year schedule must be suitable for the localities' characteristics and actual conditions.

- Holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) breaks are to be implemented according to the Labor Code 2019 and annual guiding documents.

- Teachers' annual leave should be scheduled during the summer break or arranged at different times to suit specific characteristics and the local academic year schedule.

- The academic year schedule should ensure synchronization for all educational levels within a locality, especially in schools that offer multiple educational levels.
