Vietnam: Amending the method of calculating the number of inpatient treatment days at healthcare facilities

Circular No. 44/2017/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam provides amendments to Circular No. 02/2017/TT-BYT on maximum price bracket for medical examination and treatment services not covered by health insurance in state-owned health facilities and guidance for application of prices and payment for medical examination and treatment services in some cases.

According to Circular No. 44/2017/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, calculation of the number of inpatient treatment days for patients at healthcare facilities is specified as follows:

- Admitted after 12:00 PM on the day of admission and discharged before 12:00 PM on the day of discharge:

Number of treatment days = (discharge date - admission date);

- Admitted before 12:00 PM on the day of admission and discharged before 12:00 PM on the day of discharge, or admitted after 12:00 PM on the day of admission and discharged after 12:00 PM on the day of discharge:

Number of treatment days = (discharge date - admission date) + 0.2;

- Admitted before 12:00 PM on the day of admission and discharged after 12:00 PM on the day of discharge:

Number of treatment days = (discharge date - admission date) + 0.4.

Circular No. 44/2017/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam takes effect from January 01, 2018.
