To promulgate the price framework for medical examination and treatment services in state medical examination and treatment facilities in Vietnam

On November 17, 2023, the Minister of Health issued Circular 21/2023/TT-BYT on the State's price framework for medical examination and treatment services and guides the application of prices and payment of medical examination and treatment costs in some cases in Vietnam.

To promulgate the price framework for medical examination and treatment services in state medical examination and treatment facilities in Vietnam

The price range for medical examination and treatment services includes:

- Price framework for medical examination and health check services is specified in Appendix I issued with Circular 21/2023/TT-BYT;

- Bed-day service price bracket is specified in Appendix II, issued with Circular 21/2023/TT-BYT.

- Price framework for technical and testing services is specified in Appendix III, issued with Circular 21/2023/TT-BYT.

- Added notes on a number of technical services that have been ranked equivalent by the Ministry of Health in the Decisions of the Ministry of Health in Appendix IV issued with Circular 21/2023/TT-BYT.

Instructions for implementing medical examination prices

The number of times and prices for medical examinations in some cases are determined as follows:

(i) In the event that the patient comes for a medical examination at the medical examination department and is then assigned to inpatient treatment according to professional requirements, payment for the medical examination shall be made according to the provisions of clause (iii).

In case you do not register for a medical examination at the medical examination department but come for a medical examination and receive inpatient treatment at clinical departments according to professional requirements, the medical examination fee will not be paid.

(ii) Medical examination and treatment facilities that organize specialized examinations at the clinical department. People who register for medical examinations at the medical examination department and specialized examinations at the clinical department are counted as medical examinations at the clinical department. The calculation of the number of medical examinations and prices is carried out according to the provisions in clause (iii).

(iii) During the same medical examination at the same medical examination and treatment facility (possibly on the same day or due to objective conditions or professional requirements, the medical examination process cannot be completed on the same day; the medical examination must continue the next day), if a patient needs to be examined in other specialties after being examined in one specialty, from the second examination, only 30% of the price of one examination will be charged, and the maximum payment for that person's medical examination costs is not more than 02 times the price of 01 medical examination.

(iv) The patient comes for medical examination at a medical examination and treatment facility, has been examined and given medicine for treatment, but then shows unusual symptoms and goes to that medical examination and treatment facility to be examined again that day and continue to be examined; this examination is considered the second examination or more in one day. Payment is made according to the provisions in clause (iii).
