To organize exams to select excellent students at the national level in Vietnam

- Every year, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes two exams to select excellent students at the national level, including: National exam for selecting excellent students in high schools (referred to as the exam for selecting excellent students in national high schools) and the exam for selecting high school students for national teams participating in international and regional Olympic competitions (referred to as the Olympic team selection exam).

- Each Department of Education and Training, each university, or university (not affiliated with a university) that has a high school that organizes intensive teaching programs is a participating unit; Viet Bac High School is registered as a participating unit.

Contestants select excellent students at the national level in Vietnam

- For the national excellent student selection exam:

+ Students are studying in high school, with a rating of training (or conduct) and studying (or academic performance) of good or better according to the results at the end of the semester (or school year) adjacent to the exam and being selected for the team of the participating unit;

+ Each candidate is only allowed to take one exam in a school year.

- For the Olympic team selection exam:

Students are studying in high school and fall into one of the following categories:

+ Selected by the Ministry of Education and Training among students who won prizes in the national excellent student exam in the same school year, following the principle from high to low according to test scores, ensuring that the number of students selected for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed to be selected for the national team participating in the international Olympic competition in that subject:

+ Did not participate in the national exam to select excellent students in the same school year, but was a member of the national team participating in the regional Olympic competition; member of the national team participating in the international Olympic competition in the immediately preceding school year.

Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT takes effect on November 25, 2023, and replaces Circular 56/2011/TT-BGDĐT dated 25/11/2011, Circular 41/2012/TT-BGDĐT dated 19/11/2012, Circular 37/2013/TT-BGDĐT dated 27/11/2013, Circular 02/2023/TT-BGDĐT dated 06/01/2023.
