To amend conditions for promotion of researcher's professional title in Vietnam

On October 11, 2022, the Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam issued Circular 14/2022/TT-BKHCN amending Joint Circular 24/2014/TTLT-BKHCN-BNV on codes and standards for professional titles of science and technology public employees which have been amended according to Circular 01/2020/TT-BKHCN< /a>.

According to Vietnam's Circular 14/2022/TT-BKHCN, the conditions for promotion to the professional title of researcher are as follows:

- An officer promoted from principal researcher (rank II) to senior researcher (class I) must have held the title of principal researcher (rank II) or equivalent for at least 6 years.

In the case of equivalent duration, at least 1 year (full 12 months) must be held as principal researcher (rank II) by the deadline for submitting the application for examination or consideration for promotion. (At the moment, this period is at least two years.)

- Officers promoted from researcher (class III) to principal researcher (class II) must have held the title of researcher (class III) or equivalent for at least a full 9 yearsin Vietnam.

In the case of equivalent duration, they must have at least 1 year (full 12 months) holding the title of researcher (class III) by the end of the deadline for submitting the application for examination or consideration for promotion. (At the moment, this period is at least two years.)

- Officers promoted from research assistant (class IV) to researcher (class III) must have held the title of research assistant (rank IV) or equivalent for at least 3 years in Vietnam.

In the case of equivalent duration, at least 1 year (full 12 months) must hold the title of research assistant (class IV) by the deadline for submitting the application for examination or consideration for promotion. (At the moment, this period is at least three years.)

Vietnam's Circular 14/2022/TT-BKHCN takes effect from December 12, 2022.
