The Prime Minister of Vietnam requests to enhance investment in infrastructure for organizing swimming lessons in educational institutions

In order to promptly address the consequences and proactively prevent drowning accidents involving children and students that have occurred in Phu Tho province, and at the same time, to effectively implement this work nationwide, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam requests the Chairpersons of the People's Committees of provinces and central-affiliated cities:

- Direct relevant agencies and organizations to closely coordinate with the youth union and women's union in the work of preventing drowning for children and students; instruct educational institutions in the area to implement strict management to ensure safety and prevent drowning for children and students.

- Direct and conduct reviews, promptly map out warning locations (water pits, lakes, rivers, deep and dangerous water areas, water containment facilities...) that pose a risk of drowning accidents in the area; implement preventive and remedial measures (such as constructing barricades, warning signs; guarding, reminding...).

- Directly enhance facility investment for organizing swimming instruction in educational institutions; intensify media communication regarding responsibility, disseminate knowledge, and skills on drowning prevention for parents, children, and students through mass media, and the commune and ward broadcasting system.

- Inspect the implementation of drowning prevention work for children and students by educational institutions, agencies, organizations, and local authorities at all levels; clarify the responsibilities of the heads in implementing drowning prevention measures in the locality.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam is responsible for guiding and implementing tasks, solutions, and education of knowledge and skills in drowning prevention for children and students; promoting the movement of safe swimming instruction for students in schools; strengthening propaganda and education to raise awareness, so that students are aware of and comply with the regulations on drowning prevention, especially in places with potential drowning risks to ensure their own safety;

Urgently issue programs and materials and organize safe swimming instruction, and drowning prevention for children and students in educational institutions, especially in general education institutions.
