The Ministry of Health's request for review of COVID-19 vaccination rates in Vietnam

From October 19, 2023, COVID-19 has been reclassified from a Group A infectious disease to a Group B infectious disease according to Decision 3896/QD-BYT of 2023 and will be sustainably controlled and managed according to Decision 3984/QD-BYT dated October 29, 2023, of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, where vaccination is one of the tasks and solutions in the period 2023-2025.

Given the unpredictable and difficult-to-forecast developments of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, with new sub-variants continuously being recorded, to enhance immunity against COVID-19, especially for high-risk groups, based on recommendations from the World Health Organization's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization and the Ministry of Health of Vietnam's Advisory Council on Vaccine Use, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam provides the following guidance on COVID-19 vaccination:

- The subjects for COVID-19 vaccination include: Health officials; people over 50 years old, people with underlying health conditions; people over 18 years old who have not received any dose; pregnant women.

- Dosage: If no dose has been given, immediately administer 1 dose; if vaccinated, administer an additional 1 dose at least 6 months after the previous dose using a vaccine authorized for use by the Ministry of Health. For pregnant women, administer 1 dose per pregnancy at any stage of the pregnancy, prioritizing the mid-pregnancy period.

The Ministry of Health of Vietnam requests units to review the vaccination rates in their areas and the subjects needing vaccination according to the above guidance to propose COVID-19 vaccine demand for the upcoming period and send it to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for prompt supply and organize vaccination deployment per local plans.
