Teachers in Vietnam must not force students to buy reference books

This is the content of Directive 643/CT-BGDDT dated 10/6/2022 on the use of textbooks and reference books in general education institutions in Vietnam.

In order to practice saving, combating waste and improving the efficiency of using textbooks, increasing the percentage of textbooks in Vietnam which are reused many times; do not force students and their families to buy reference books and workbooks, the Minister of Education and Training requests the Department of Education and Training to direct the Department of Education and Training, general education institutions in the locality to implement a number of contents and nominations:

- Strictly comply with the provisions of Clause 4, Article 5 of Circular 21/2014/TT-BGDDT: "Teachers and education managers at all levels in Vietnam must not abuse their work positions to perform or participate in the implementation of coercion and mobilization of students, learners or parents of students and students to buy reference publications in any form.".

- Directing educational institutions not to mobilize students, or parents, students to buy publications outside the textbook list approved by the Ministry of Education and Training and selected localities in any form;

Do not make a list, package a textbook with workbooks, reference books and other materials in addition to the list of approved textbooks, select for students and parents in Vietnam to buy and use.
