The duties and powers of the Central propaganda and training commission are specified in Article 2 of Vietnam's
Decision 88-QD/TW.
In particular, the Central propaganda and training commission performs a number of tasks assigned by the Politburo and the Secretariat of Vietnam, such as:
- Assume primary responsibility for, and coordinate the development of, policies and ideological and political orientations in theoretical research and political education, including traditional history and revolutionary ethics education.
- Direct the educational content of Marxism, Leninism theory, and Ho Chi Minh's thought in the national education system, the political school system, the school system of branches, mass organizations, and district-level political centers.
- Monitor and direct associations assigned by the party and state at the central level in the field of propaganda (Additional content)
- Orient the planning, directing, and management of ministerial-level scientific research projects of the Central propaganda and training commission.
- Coordinate with central departments, ministries, and law enforcement branches; carry out socioeconomic development plans; and deal with complex and sensitive public-interest issues.(Additional content)
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Politburo and the Secretariat.
