Target to 2025: 1 billion trees planted across Vietnam

Below is the important goal set out in Decision 524/QD-TTg approving the Project "Growing one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period" issued on April 1, 2021 in Vietnam.

According to Decision 524, the Prime Minister of Vietnam approved the project "Growing one billion trees in the period of 2021–2025" with the goal that by 2025, the whole country can plant one billion trees. Of which 690 million trees are scattered in urban areas and rural areas, 310 million trees are concentrated in protection forests, special-use forests, and new production forests. This shall contribute to the protection of the ecological environment, the improvement of the landscape and response to climate change, socio-economic development, the improvement of people's quality of life and the country's sustainable development.

The implementation plan is as follows:

- In 2021, about 182 million trees will be planted, of which 120 million trees will be scattered, an increase of 1.5 times compared to 2020.

- From 2022 to 2025, on average, 204.5 million trees will be planted, of which 142.5 million trees will be scattered, an increase of 1.8 times compared to 2020.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ò Vietnam shall assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the People's Committees of the provinces and municipalities and relevant agencies in Vietnam to develop detailed 5-year and annual plans.
