On June 23, 2017, the Ministry of Information and Communications issued Circular 07/2017/TT-BTTTT on the National Postal Code, replacing Decision 05/2004/QD-BBCVT dated January 20, 2004.
The new structure of the National Postal Code consists of 05 numerical characters (currently, a minimum of 06 numerical characters is required). Specifically:
- The first 02 characters define the province or city under central authority;- The first 03 or 04 characters define the district, county, and equivalent administrative unit;- The 05 characters define the object assigned the National Postal Code.
In cases of administrative unit division or establishment, the new unit will be assigned a code from the reserve source. In cases of administrative unit mergers, the merged unit will use the code of the merged units.
For National Postal Codes not in use, they will be returned to the reserve source.
Circular 07/2017/TT-BTTTT takes effect from September 01, 2017.
