Strengthening the prevention and control of COVID-19 infections in medical examination and treatment facilities in Vietnam

Recently, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Official Dispatch 4393/BYT-KCB on strengthening the prevention and control of SARS-COV-2 infection in medical examination and treatment establishments.

In order to ensure safety and minimize the risk of infection for healthcare workers, patients, and the community, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam requests the Directors of the Departments of Health of the provinces and central-affiliated cities; Heads of Health Departments of various sectors; Directors of Hospitals and Research Institutes with hospital beds directly under the Ministry of Health to direct their affiliated medical examination and treatment facilities to strictly implement:

- Strictly implement social distancing regulations in the hospital between departments, rooms, and groups of healthcare workers. Ensure that everyone entering the hospital, buildings, and departments wears a mask and practices hand hygiene;

- Enhance ventilation measures, surface cleaning (especially frequently touched surfaces), waste management conformably in departments, particularly in screening, isolation, and sanitation areas, intensive care units, and infectious disease departments. Ensure bedside distancing according to regulations;

- Suspend visits to inpatients by family members;

- All clinical departments must have isolation rooms to temporarily isolate suspected patients during treatment until test results are obtained to rule out infection;
