State policies on prevention and combat of human trafficking in Vietnam

On November 28, 2024, the National Assembly of Vietnam passed the Law on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking 2024, which includes regulations on the State's policies regarding the prevention and combat of human trafficking.

Law on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking 2024 stipulates the prevention, detection, handling of acts of human trafficking and other acts violating the law on prevention and combat of human trafficking; reception, verification, identification, support, and protection of victims and individuals in the process of being identified as victims; state management and the responsibilities of agencies, organizations, families, and individuals in the prevention and combat of human trafficking; international cooperation in preventing and combating human trafficking.

State policies on prevention and combat of human trafficking in Vietnam

The State policies on the prevention and combat of human trafficking in Vietnam include:

- Preventing and combating human trafficking is a part of the national strategy for crime prevention and is integrated with the implementation of other socio-economic development programs.

- Encouraging domestic and foreign agencies, organizations, and individuals to participate in, cooperate with, and sponsor activities for preventing and combating human trafficking and supporting victims and those in the process of being identified as victims; encouraging domestic organizations and individuals to establish victim support facilities in accordance with the law.

- Prioritizing the application of science and technology, and digital transformation in the prevention and combat of human trafficking; supporting the training and capacity building for personnel involved in the prevention and combat of human trafficking.

- Protecting and supporting victims and those in the process of being identified as victims, as well as agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals participating in the prevention and combat of human trafficking as prescribed by law.

- Commending agencies, organizations, and individuals with achievements in the work of preventing and combatting human trafficking; ensuring policies for individuals involved in the prevention and combat of human trafficking who suffer losses in terms of life, health, or property as stipulated by law.

- Annually, the State allocates a budget for the work of preventing and combating human trafficking, prioritizing ethnic minority areas, regions with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, and areas with complex human trafficking situations.

Law on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking 2024 takes effect from July 1, 2025, and replaces the Law on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking 2011.
