Standards for Meals for Crew Members on Vietnamese Seagoing Ships

The Ministry of Health has just issued Circular No. 40/2017/TT-BYT stipulating hygiene standards, food safety, drinking water, and meal quantity for seafarers working on Vietnamese sea vessels.

Meals for crew members working on sea-going vessels must meet the following standards:

- Caloric intake levels:- For males: 2,926 - 3,234 Kcal/day.- For females: 2,486 - 2,574 Kcal/day.- The daily intake of protein, lipids, and glucids must account for 13-20%, 20-25%, and 55-67% respectively; ensuring a balanced intake of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.- A minimum of 2 main meals and 1 supplementary meal per day.- The menu should vary between meals during the day and by week, ensuring the required quantity, food preservation conditions, and preparation for crew members.- The selected and prepared food should be appropriate to the religion, beliefs, and culture of the crew members.

Circular 40/2017/TT-BYT took effect on December 06, 2017.
