Standards for goggles and gowns used in the prevention of Covid-19 in Vietnam

The Ministry of Health of Vietnam issued Decision 1341/QD-BYT dated May 24, 2022 guiding the selection and use of personal protective equipment in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam.

Accordingly, gowns and goggles used in the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Vietnam must meet the requirements of standards for SARS-CoV-2 infection prevention and control, specifically:

- For the gown:

+ Single-use gown:

Meets TCVN 13411: 2021 or BS EN 14126: 2003 or AAMI PB170 and ASTM F3352.

+ Reusable gown:

For units with limited resources, medical staff when performing examination, care or performing technical procedures are not at risk of splashing blood or body fluids of COVID-19 patients to their bodies. e.g. major vascular interventions, extensive wound care, obstetric procedures...):

Gowns made from washable and disinfecting materials such as polyester or polyester-cotton can be used and must be disinfected before reuse as specified.

+ The gown has a long-sleeve design that covers the entire body from the neck to the knees, the collar must cover at least the collarbone, and has a tie or button to fix the shirt behind.

- Face shield or goggles:

Disposable type or type that can be cleaned and disinfected before reuse, ensuring field of view, no image distortion, anti-fog and scratch resistant.

Decision 1341/QD-BYT takes effect from the date of signing and replaces Decision 4159/QD-BYT dated August 28, 2021.
