On February 18, 2025, the National Assembly of Vietnam passed Resolution 71/2025/UBTVQH15 concerning the specific duties, powers, and organizational structure of the Council for Ethnic Affairs and the Committees of the National Assembly.

Specific duties and powers of the Council for Ethnic Affairs in Vietnam

The specific tasks and powers of the Council for Ethnic Affairs are prescribed as follows:

- To examine law projects, ordinances, and resolutions of the National Assembly and the Standing Committee of the National Assembly concerning ethnic affairs and other reports, projects, and schemes under its jurisdiction or as assigned by the National Assembly or the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.

- To examine the assurance of ethnic policies in law projects, ordinances, and resolutions of the National Assembly and the Standing Committee of the National Assembly before submission to the National Assembly or the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.

- To supervise the implementation of the Constitution, laws, and resolutions of the National Assembly, ordinances, and resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly; to supervise the activities of the Government of Vietnam, Ministries, and ministerial-level agencies within the fields overseen by the Council; to supervise the implementation of ethnic policies and the economic - social development programs and plans for mountainous regions and ethnic minority areas.

- To supervise legal normative documents of the Government of Vietnam, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, Ministers, and heads of ministerial-level agencies within the fields overseen by the Council.

- To research and recommend to the National Assembly on ethnic affairs; to propose matters regarding the implementation of the state's ethnic policies, issues related to the organization and activities of relevant agencies, and other matters concerning ethnic affairs.

- To present law projects and resolutions to the National Assembly, and ordinance projects and resolutions to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly regarding the fields overseen by the Council.

- To have the responsibility to give opinions on the issuance of regulations for the implementation of ethnic policies by the Government of Vietnam.

- To perform other tasks as assigned by the National Assembly and the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
