Scope of greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level in Vietnam from February 15, 2025

The greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level is conducted for greenhouse gases emitted from fuel combustion activities of vehicles and equipment in the transportation sector nationwide during the inventory year, including:

- Road transport sector: greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel combustion activities of road motor vehicles.

- Railway sector: greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel combustion activities of railway vehicles.

- Inland waterway sector: greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel combustion activities of inland waterway vessels (excluding fishing vessels, fishery enforcement vessels).

- Maritime sector: greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel combustion activities of marine vessels (excluding fishing vessels, fishery enforcement vessels) serving domestic maritime transport.

- Aviation sector: greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel combustion activities of aircraft serving domestic air transport.

- Other transport vehicles and equipment: greenhouse gas emissions from the fuel combustion activities of specialized machines, vehicles, and equipment in transportation as stipulated in section 3.3, Chapter 3, Volume 2 of the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Guidelines by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2006 edition (hereinafter referred to as the IPCC 2006 Guidelines).

Procedures for greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level in Vietnam

The procedures for greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level are as follows:

- Determine the scope of the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Develop the method for the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Collect activity data for the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Select emission factors for the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Calculate greenhouse gas emissions at the sectoral level.

- Ensure quality assurance and quality control of the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Assess the uncertainty of the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Recalculate the results of the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Develop a report on the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.

- Appraise and report the results of the greenhouse gas inventory at the sectoral level.
