Recently, the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam has issued the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 in 2020 on arrangement of commune-level and district-level administrative divisions and establishment of Thu Duc City affiliated to Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Resolution No. 1111/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, establishing Thu Duc City by merging a total 49.79 square kilometers (sq km) of natural area, 171,311 people of District 2; a total 113.97 sq km of natural area, 310,107 people of District 9 and a total of 47.80 sq km of natural area, 532,377 people of Thu Duc District. Following the establishment, Thu Duc City has 211.56 sq km of natural area and population size of 1,013,795 people. Thu Duc City borders District 1, District 4, District 7, District 12, Binh Thanh District; Binh Duong Province and Dong Nai Province.
Arrange commune-level administrative divisions in Thu Duc City as follows:
- Merge a total of 1.74 sq km of natural area, 124 people of An Khanh Ward into Thu Thiem Ward. Following the merger, Thu Thiem Ward has 3.25 sq km of natural area and population size of 428 people.
- Establish An Khanh Ward by merging a total of 2.03 sq km of natural area, 4,333 people of Binh Khanh Ward and a total of 1.89 sq km of natural area, 18,821 people of Binh An Ward. Following the establishment, An Khanh Ward has 3.92 sq km of natural area and population size of 23,154 people.
