The ship owner, vehicle owner, and captain are responsible for maintaining the operation of the Automatic Identification System (AIS) equipment according to policies 24/7 to transmit AIS messages according to the designed function of the equipment.

Additionally, in the event that the AIS equipment is damaged, immediate notification must be given to the Maritime Administration or Inland Waterway Administration under the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration.

In cases where there is a change in information related to the ship’s identification number, ship name, IMO number (if any), call sign (if any), type, and size of the ship, immediate notification must also be provided.

Note that after operating and utilizing the AIS equipment, the ship owner, vehicle owner, and captain must record the entire process of operation and utilization of the equipment in the ship's logbook.

Circular 17/2018/TT-BGTVT becomes effective as of July 1, 2018.
