On September 30, 2024, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 118/2024/ND-CP detailing the implementation of certain provisions of the Law on Criminal Judgment Execution 2019, including regulations on regime for board for inmates in Vietnam, starting from November 15, 2024.

From November 15, 2024, regime for board for inmates in Vietnam will be regulated as follows:

Inmates in Vietnam are entitled to the State's provision, the monthly standard quantities include:

- 17 kg of white rice;

- 15 kg of green vegetables;

- 01 kg of pork;

- 01 kg of fish;

- 0.5 kg of sugar;

- 0.75 liters of fish sauce;

- 0.2 liters of cooking oil;

- 0.1 kg of monosodium glutamate;

- 0.5 kg of salt;

- Other spices: equivalent to 0.5 kg of white rice;

- Fuel: equivalent to 17 kg of firewood or 15 kg of coal.

Foodstuffs, provisions, and fuel are ensured to be of quality and are at average market prices applicable in the locality.

The diet on holidays and New Year for inmates is implemented according to lawful provisions and Clause 1, Article 48 of the Law on Execution of Criminal Judgments 2019.

Inmates engaged in labor under the list of heavy, hazardous, and dangerous occupations as prescribed by law will be provided an increased food quota, but the total food allowance should not exceed 02 times the normal daily food standard.

Based on the requirement to ensure inmates' health during detention, labor, and study at the place of imprisonment execution, the head of the inmate detention facility may decide to interchange food quantities to suit reality so that inmates can consume the full standard.

Beyond the mentioned food standard, inmates are allowed to use their own gifts and money to eat more, not exceeding 03 times the food standard within 01 month for each inmate, and this must be via the deposit and canteen system that serves the living needs of such facilities.

Additionally, inmates are ensured sanitation and food safety.

More details can be found in Decree 118/2024/ND-CP, which will be effective in Vietnam from November 15, 2024, and will replace Decree 133/2020/ND-CP dated November 9, 2020, providing detailed guidelines for certain provisions of the Law on Execution of Criminal Judgments 2019.
