On November 19, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Decision 1422/QD-TTg regarding the issuance of the National Plan for climate change adaptation for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050 in Vietnam (updated).
The updated National Plan for climate change adaptation for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision towards 2050 in Vietnam is promulgated together with Decision 1422/QD-TTg in 2024. Below are some of the main contents as follows:
* General Objectives
To reduce vulnerability and risks in the face of the negative impacts of climate change by enhancing the resilience and adaptive capacity of natural, economic, and social systems, minimizing losses and damages due to climate change; promoting the integration of climate change adaptation into strategies and planning.
* Specific Objectives
- Enhance the resilience and adaptive capacity of natural, economic, and social systems, ensuring sustainable livelihoods; improve capacity and awareness to be ready to adjust to climate changes.
- Reduce disaster risks, minimize damages from increasing natural disasters and extreme weather conditions, contribute to minimizing losses and damages due to climate change.
- Improve institutions, leverage potential and resources to effectively adapt to climate change, and promote the integration of climate change adaptation into strategies and planning.
* Tasks and Solutions
(1) Enhance the resilience and adaptive capacity of natural, economic, and social systems, ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
Enhance the resilience and adaptive capacity of natural, economic, and social systems, ensuring sustainable livelihoods through investments in climate change adaptation activities aimed at efficient use and prevention of resource depletion and degradation; develop smart agriculture adapted to climate change; protect and develop forests and ecosystems; develop infrastructure systems; strengthen healthcare systems and services; ensure social welfare and gender equality.
(2) Reduce disaster risks, minimize damages from increasing natural disasters and extreme weather
Deploy solutions to enhance capacities for forecasting, early warning of natural disasters, and extreme weather conditions; improve climate risk assessment and management; implement solutions to mitigate disaster risks, minimize losses and damages from the short-term, medium-term, and long-term impacts of climate change, and be ready to respond to increasing natural disasters and extreme weather.
(3) Improve institutions, leverage potential and resources for effective climate change adaptation
Strengthen state management of climate change, improve institutions and policies, and promote the integration of climate change adaptation into strategies and planning; promote climate change adaptation activities with co-benefits, enhance public awareness and participation in climate change adaptation activities through communication, training, increase scientific research and technology development, mobilize financial resources, investment and international cooperation activities to respond to climate change.
