the Government of Vietnam has just issued Decree 83/2020/ND-CP amending and supplementing several articles of Decree 156/2018/ND-CP guiding the implementation of several articles of the Law on Forestry.

This Decree stipulates that projects converted from natural forest use to other purposes include:

- Nationally important projects as stipulated in Article 7 of the Public Investment Law 2019, projects approved by the National Assembly for investment policy according to Article 30 of the Investment Law 2014;- Projects serving national defense and security confirmed in writing by the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Public Security; in accordance with the land use planning and plans approved by the competent state authority; in line with the national forestry planning according to law regulations on planning;- Urgent projects that need to change the use purpose of natural forests;- Projects that have been approved for investment policy or investment decision by the competent authority in accordance with the law but temporarily suspended for review according to Resolution 71/NQ-CP dated August 8, 2017.
