Program for the application of achievements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in ensuring energy security in Vietnam

The Prime Minister of Vietnam has approved the Program for the Application of Achievements from the Fourth Industrial Revolution in ensuring national energy security in Vietnam until 2030 with multiple contents.

Below are some of the general objectives and application orientations in the electric and renewable energy sectors in Vietnam:

General Objectives:

- Proactively and effectively leverage the opportunities of Fourth Industrial Revolution; fundamentally master and widely apply new technologies in the energy sector; gradually innovate new technologies to stimulate the innovation process in the energy sector; robustly develop the digital economy; accelerate and sustainable development based on science and technology, innovative creativity, and high-quality human resources; enhance the quality of life, welfare, and health of the people; firmly ensure national defense, security, ecological environment protection, secure green growth goals, and move towards carbon neutrality by 2050; enhance effective international integration and closely link the application of Fourth Industrial Revolution achievements with the task of protecting energy security, ensuring national defense and security.

- Continue to build and complete the specialized energy information system organized scientifically and uniformly, with a database system according to international standards, comprehensive, promptly, consistent, regularly updated, managed, and operated by professionally trained personnel, based on modern information technology infrastructure, ensuring that the system's output is of sufficient quality to best meet the needs of state management activities of the Government of Vietnam and related Ministries and industries in the energy sector.

Application Orientation and Development in the Electric and Renewable Energy Sectors

- Develop the electric sector towards modernity, meeting international standards and suitable to the conditions of Vietnam. Ensure a balance between energy supply and demand and between regions according to the socio-economic development plan of the country, regions, and localities at each period, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

- Develop the electric supply chain towards synchronization from electric source development, generation, transmission, to distribution, meeting the development requirements of the electric system and electric market. Accelerate investment progress and put into operation electric source projects and electric transmission grids.

- Research and develop storage systems such as energy storage batteries, heat storage, etc., to ensure the stability of the electric system integrated with many renewable energy sources. Additionally, research and implement projects related to clean fuel sources such as green hydrogen, green ammonia to serve socio-economic development.

- Promote digital transformation and effectively exploit the achievements of Fourth Industrial Revolution to address challenges in source development, production operation, transmission system construction and operation, development of competitive electric markets, and efficient integration of renewable energy sources.

- Continue to research and implement measures to reduce energy loss on electric grids, especially for low-voltage grids including medium and low-voltage networks. Simultaneously, calculate energy loss indices and set goals comparable to those in the region and worldwide.
