Professional standards for seafarers in charge of navigational watch in Vietnam

The professional standards for seafarers in charge of navigational watch are specified as follows:

- Professional standards for OS seafarers in charge of navigational watch: OS seafarers in charge of navigational watch must meet the professional standards stipulated in Section A-II/4 of the STCW Code regarding maritime functions at the support level.

- Professional standards for AB seafarers in charge of navigational watch:

AB seafarers in charge of navigational watch must meet the professional standards stipulated in Section A-II/5 of the STCW Code regarding the following functions:

+ Maritime operations at the support level;

+ Cargo handling and stowage techniques at the support level;

+ Ship operations and care for persons on board at the support level;

+ Maintenance and repair at the support level.

Conditions for issuance of certificates of competency to seafarers in charge of navigational watch in Vietnam

- OS seafarers in charge of navigational watch:

+ Graduated with at least an intermediate level degree in maritime navigation or completed the theoretical modules of the maritime officer training program in maritime navigation as prescribed by the Minister of Transport, or completed the OS duty sailor training modules at a college level or higher at maritime training institutions.

In cases of graduating with a primary level degree in maritime navigation, the advanced training program prescribed by the Minister of Transport must be completed;

+ Possess a basic professional training certificate;

+ Have at least 06 months of sea service or at least 02 months of OS duty sailor internship.

- AB seafarers in charge of navigational watch:

+ Possess an OS duty sailor Certificate of Competency (for those without an OS duty sailor Certificate of Competency, a college level degree or higher in maritime navigation is required);

+ Possess a basic professional training certificate;

+ Have at least 18 months of sea service or at least 12 months of AB duty sailor internship.
