Priority Recognition of Local Medicinal Plant Varieties

the Government of Vietnam promulgates Decree 65/2017/ND-CP stipulating special policies on breeds, capital, and technology in the development of cultivation and exploitation of medicinal herbs.

Priority will be given to recognizing medicinal plant varieties in the following two cases:

- Local medicinal plant varieties:- Considered for inclusion in the List of Medicinal Plant Varieties Permitted for Production and Business in Vietnam;- Not required to undergo testing and recognition as new varieties according to the Ordinance on Plant Varieties 2004, and the Ordinance on Animal Breeds 2004.- New medicinal plant varieties:- Plant varieties: Considered for special recognition according to the Ordinance on Plant Varieties 2004 and guiding documents;- Animal breeds: Recognized as new breeds according to the Ordinance on Animal Breeds 2004 and guiding documents.

Additionally, medicinal plant varieties are entitled to support policies for production, including infrastructure construction, costs for producing original and commercial varieties.

Decree 65/2017/ND-CP has been effective since July 5, 2017, replacing the support content for planting medicinal plants in Article 12 of Decree 210/2013/ND-CP.
