On October 11, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Directive 38/CT-TTg on enhancement of food poisoning prevention measures in Vietnam
In recent times, the work of ensuring food safety, including the prevention of food poisoning, has been implemented by ministries, central authorities, and local authorities, achieving many positive results. The number of food poisoning cases and deaths due to poisoning has decreased significantly compared to previous years. However, since the beginning of 2024, several large food poisoning incidents have consecutively occurred in many localities, causing many people to be affected and hospitalized for treatment, indicating that the risk of food poisoning still looms and continues to cause public concern.
To further enhance the effectiveness of food poisoning prevention efforts, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam requires the Ministry of Health of Vietnam to:
- Strengthen efforts to prevent, block, and resolve food safety incidents, especially preventing the risk of food poisoning; promptly rectify any limitations and shortcomings (if any); frequently urge and check the organization of this work in localities, especially in key areas, major cities, tourist areas... where there are many collective kitchens, catering services for workers, students, tourists...; minimizing the risk of food poisoning to the lowest level.
- Intensify information dissemination and communication about the risks of food poisoning and the prevention of food poisoning, particularly at tourist spots, collective school kitchens, industrial parks, export processing zones, and street food vendors;
- Direct the effective implementation of measures to monitor the risks of food poisoning, provide information, and warn of poisoning risks due to microorganisms, natural toxins...; enhance the inspection of compliance with food safety laws, with attention to increased oversight of surprise inspections, especially in high-risk areas, and strictly handle violations according to regulations in Vietnam;
- Direct the prompt emergency and treatment of food poisoning victims, ensuring the best care for people's health and lives when food poisoning occurs; proactively and promptly support localities in handling and overcoming the consequences of food poisoning when necessary.
