Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam directs to strengthen solid waste management

Recently, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Directive 41/CT-TTg on urgent solutions to strengthen solid waste management.

To address the limitations and inadequacies in the current solid waste management efforts, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam directs the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam to:

- Review, amend, and supplement legal documents within its authority or submit to competent authorities for the promulgation of documents related to solid waste management, based on the amended Law on Environmental Protection, to develop, finalize, and issue economic-technical standards on waste collection, transportation, and treatment, and regulations on waste treatment service pricing methods;

- Urgently develop and submit to the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam for review and approval the national environmental protection plan in the first quarter of 2022, which includes orientation on the locations and scales of regional and national centralized hazardous waste treatment facilities;

- Review and amend national technical standards on environmental aspects in solid waste treatment towards stricter criteria that are closer to advanced countries' standards; initially focus on reviewing and amending QCVN 61-MT:2016/BTNMT - National Technical Regulation on Domestic Solid Waste Incinerators;
