Officially transfer COVID-19 from group A infectious disease to group B in Vietnam

Adjusting acute respiratory infections caused by a new strain of Coronavirus (COVID-19) from a group A infectious disease to a group B infectious disease according to the provisions of Point b, Clause 1 and Clause 2, Article 3 of the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 2007.

COVID-19 prevention and control activities are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 2007 for group B infectious diseases.

**Group A infectious diseases: This includes particularly dangerous infectious diseases that have the ability to transmit very quickly, spread widely, have a high mortality rate, or whose causative agent is unknown.

Group B infectious diseases: This includes dangerous infectious diseases that are capable of rapid transmission and can cause death.

Decision 3896/QD-BYT takes effect on October 20, 2023. Decision 219/QD-BYT on adding acute respiratory infections caused by a new strain of Corona virus (nCov) to the list of group A infectious diseases will expire on October 20, 2023.

Basis for declaring the end of the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam

Regarding the basis for declaring the end of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Prime Minister has issued Decision 26/2023/QD-TTg amending the Appendix regulating the average incubation period and the time when no more cases of infectious disease are detected as a basis for declaring the end of infectious diseases promulgated together with Decision 02/2016/QD-TTg in 2016 stipulating conditions for declaring epidemics and declaring the end of infectious diseases.

The decision clearly states: addition of groups, average incubation period, and time without detecting new cases of COVID-19 (formerly known as acute respiratory infection caused by a new strain of the Coronavirus).

Thus, COVID-19 belongs to group B; the average incubation period is 4 days, and the time until no new cases are detected is 8 days.
