Recently, the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam has issued the Resolution No. 1109/NQ-UBTVQH14 on the establishment of Phu Quoc City and wards affiliated to Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province.
According to the Resolution No. 1109/NQ-UBTVQH14 of the National Assembly Standing Committee of Vietnam, Phu Quoc city will be established from January 01, 2021 on the basis of the entire natural area and population size of 179,480 people of Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang province. Phu Quoc city borders Ha Tien city, Kien Luong district; Gulf of Thailand and Cambodia.
Concurrently, establishing wards in Phu Quoc city, including:
- Establishing Duong Dong ward on the basis of the whole natural area and population size of 60,415 people of Duong Dong town;
- Establishing An Thoi ward on the basis of importing the entire natural area, population size of 4,610 people of Hon Thom commune and the entire natural area and population size of 37,485 people of An Thoi town.
Note: After the establishment of Phu Quoc city and wards of Phu Quoc city:
- Phu Quoc city has 09 commune-level administrative units, including 02 wards: An Thoi, Duong Dong and 07 communes: Bai Thom, Cua Can, Cua Duong, Duong To, Ganh Dau, Ham Ninh, Tho Chau;
- Kien Giang province has 15 district-level administrative units, including 12 districts and 03 cities; 144 commune-level administrative units, including 116 communes, 18 wards and 10 townships.
