Official reduction of 50% in registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled automobiles in Vietnam from September 01, 2024

From September 1, 2024, to November 30, 2024, the registration fee rate will be 50% of the rate specified in Decree 10/2022/ND-CP dated January 15, 2022, of the Government of Vietnam on registration fees; current Resolutions of the People’s Council or current Decisions of the Provincial People's Committee, centrally-administered cities regarding the rates of registration fees in localities, and respective amendment, supplementation, and replacement documents (if any).

From December 1, 2024, onwards, the registration fee rates will continue to be implemented as specified in Decree 10/2022/ND-CP dated January 15, 2022, of the Government of Vietnam on registration fees; current Resolutions of the People’s Council or current Decisions of the Provincial People's Committee, centrally-administered cities regarding the rates of registration fees in localities, and respective amendment, supplementation, and replacement documents (if any).

Registration fee rates for automobiles in Vietnam (%) from December 1, 2024

The registration fee rates for automobiles (percentage) are as follows:

- automobiles, trailers, or semi-trailers towed by automobiles, types of vehicles similar to automobiles: The rate is 2%.

Except for:

- automobiles automobilerying up to 9 passengers (including pick-up automobiles): the initial registration fee is 10%. In cases where a higher rate is necessary to suit the actual conditions of each locality, the People’s Council of the province, centrally-administered city shall decide to increase the rate, but not exceeding 50% of the commonly regulated rate at this point.

- Pick-up trucks with a permissible payload of less than 950 kg and up to 5 seats, VAN trucks with a permissible payload of less than 950 kg shall pay the initial registration fee at 60% of the initial registration fee rate for automobiles automobilerying up to 9 passengers.

- Battery-electric automobiles:+ Within 3 years from March 1, 2022: the initial registration fee rate is 0%.+ In the next 2 years: the initial registration fee rate is 50% of the rate for petrol or diesel automobiles with the same number of seats.

- The types of automobiles specified above: from the second registration onwards, the fee rate is 2%, uniformly applied nationwide.

Based on the type of vehicle indicated in the Technical Safety and Environmental Protection Certification issued by the Vietnamese inspection agency, the tax authority shall determine the registration fee rate for automobiles, trailers, or semi-trailers towed by automobiles, types of vehicles similar to automobiles as regulated.

Decree 109/2024/ND-CP takes effect in Vietnam from September 1, 2024.
