The National Defense Law 2018 was passed by the XIV National Assembly, 5th session on June 08, 2018, and officially came into effect on January 01, 2019.
The 2018 National Defense Law once again reaffirms the obligation of citizens to fulfill military service obligations rather than just performing military service as stated in the 2005 National Defense Law.
Meanwhile, the new Law clearly sets out 06 cases for using the people's armed forces, including:
- During wartime or a national defense emergency situation as per the President's order;- Enforcing martial law and curfew orders;- In emergency situations due to disasters, dangerous epidemics, or serious threats to national security, public order, and social safety (TTATXH);- When there is a threat to national security or TTATXH but not to the extent of declaring a state of emergency;- Participating in activities that contribute to the protection of peace in the region and the world, as per the decision of the National Defense and Security Council;- When complex situations arise concerning national security, TTATXH; combating crime; participating in prevention, response, and recovery from incidents, natural disasters, and epidemics, the use of armed forces.
2018 National Defense Law replaces 2005 National Defense Law.
