On July 1, 2021, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Circular 19/2021/TT-BGDĐT on General Education Program for Foreign Languages 1: Russian, Japanese, French and Chinese.

The Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam has promulgated the General Education Program in Foreign Language 1, including:

- General education program in Russian;

- General education program in Japanese;

- General education program in French;

- General education program in Chinese.

The programs for the above subjects are implemented according to the implementation roadmap of the General Education Program specified in Vietnam's Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, specifically:

- From the school year 2020-2021 for grade 1.

- From the school year 2021-2022 for grade 2 and grade 6.

- From the school year 2022-2023 for 3rd, 7th and 10th grade.

- From the school year 2023-2024 for grade 4, grade 8 and grade 11.

- From the 2024-2025 school year for grade 5, grade 9 and grade 12.

The Japanese language program promulgated in Vietnam's Decision 2051/QD-BGDDT dated 18/5/2011 is applied until the program of subjects is implemented according to the above roadmap.

For junior high and high schools that have not yet implemented the Japanese language subject according to the above roadmap, they will continue to implement Decision 2051/QD-BGDDT until the end of grade 12.

Vietnam's Circular 19/2021/TT-BGDDT takes effect from August 16, 2021 and replaces Vietnam's Decision 16/2016/QD-BGDDT.
