Method for Testing and Detecting the New Strain of nCoV Virus

Recently, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management under the Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch 108/KCB-QLCL&CDT regarding Temporary Guidance on Testing for the Novel Strain of the Corona Virus (nCoV).

In order to ensure the best readiness for the nCoV testing amidst different epidemic scenarios, Official Dispatch 108 has introduced the Testing Strategy to Detect the New nCoV Strain, with specific testing methods as follows:

- For samples collected from patients meeting the case definition of a suspected disease and hospitalized, perform nCoV testing using real-time RT PCR or next-generation sequencing techniques and return results within 24 hours from receipt of the sample;- For other patients with symptoms of acute respiratory infection but not meeting the definition of a suspected case, conduct screening tests for influenza virus and other respiratory pathogens according to the laboratory's procedures;- Hospitals shall proactively collect samples following the guidelines in Appendix 3, Decision 181/QD-BYT.
