Mandatory Social Insurance Contribution Rates for Foreign Employees

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance issued Official Dispatch 2446/BHXH-QLT on November 29, 2018, providing temporary guidance on mandatory social insurance participation for foreign workers.

workers who are foreign citizens working in Vietnam are subject to compulsory social insurance participation when they have a work permit or a practice certificate or a practice license issued by the competent authority; have an indefinite-term labor contract or a definite-term labor contract with a term of one year or more with the employer in Vietnam.

Each month the employer shall contribute to the social insurance fund based on the monthly salary fund for the foreign worker at the following rates:

From December 1, 2018:

- 3% to the sickness and maternity fund;- 0.5% to the labor accident and occupational disease fund;

From January 1, 2022:

- 3% to the sickness and maternity fund;- 0.5% to the labor accident and occupational disease fund;- 14% to the retirement and survivorship fund.

The employee shall contribute 8% to the retirement and survivorship fund each month from January 1, 2022.
