Mandatory Requirement for Measles Patients to Wear Masks When Visiting for Medical Examination
Thuy Phu

Recently, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management issued Official Dispatch No. 1242/KCB-NV requesting the implementation of several measures to enhance the examination, classification, and treatment of measles, hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), and Dengue fever (DF) in order to prevent overcrowding, reduce cross-infection, and decrease mortality rates.

To be specific:

- Strengthen communication efforts (via loudspeakers, leaflets, or direct guidance...) so that patients, their family members, medical staff, trainees, and interns understand the transmission routes:- Measles is transmitted through the respiratory route;- Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is transmitted through the digestive route, mainly from the saliva, blisters, and feces of infected children;- Dengue Fever (DF) is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.- Recommend or require patients:- Patients with measles or suspected measles should wear masks when visiting the hospital. For small children (who cannot wear masks), family members should use tissue paper to cover the children's mouths when they cough or sneeze;- For HFMD, hands must be washed with soap each time after caring for or cleaning the children;- For DF, mosquito bites should be prevented when in the hospital (DF mosquitoes bite during the day, especially in the early morning or late afternoon and evening).

For details, see Official Dispatch 1242/KCB-NV dated October 9, 2018.
