On November 11, 2020, the National Assembly of Vietnam has issued the Law on Vietnam Border Guard 2020 replacing the Ordinance on Border Guard 1997.
According to the Law on Vietnam Border Guard 2020, the following acts are strictly prohibited:
- Infringing upon national sovereignty and territory; sabotage and destabilize security, social order and safety in border and border-gate areas;
- Using or allowing the use of Vietnam's border areas to oppose or interfere in other countries; threat to use or use force in border relations;
- Impersonating agencies, organizations or persons performing border guard duties; against, obstructing, taking revenge, threatening, infringing upon the life and health, offending the honor and dignity of the person performing border guard duties;
- Bribe, seduce, entice or force border guards to perform illegal duties;
- Taking advantage of, abusing the performance of border guard duties to violate the law, infringe upon the interests of the State, and the lawful rights and interests of agencies, organizations and individuals;
- Discrimination on gender, division, ethnicity, race, nationality, belief, religion, cultural level in the performance of border guard duties;
- Producing, using, buying, selling, exchanging, transporting and disseminating information and false images about national sovereignty, territory and borders.
