Increasing the Minimum Room Size of Social Housing to 10 Square Meters

This content is stipulated in Circular 20/2016/TT-BXD guiding the implementation of Decree 100/2015/ND-CP on social housing development and management, effective from August 15, 2016.

standards for each room of social housing constructed by individuals or households for sale, lease, or lease purchase have some new points compared to the standards in Circular 08/2014/TT-BXD:

- The usable area of a room must not be less than 10 m(^2) (increased by 1 m(^2) compared to previous regulations);- The walls enclosing and separating rooms must be made of fireproof and waterproof materials;- The roof must not be made of flammable materials and must not be susceptible to leakage;- The floor must be tiled or finished with cement mortar and must be higher than the road leading into the house, yard surface, or pavement;- There must be adequate lighting (at least one 40W electric bulb for an area of 10 m(^2)), and for collective housing, there must be at least one electric socket per person;- Sanitary water supply and fire safety equipment must be provided as per regulations.- The average usable area per person is 5 m(^2) (previously 4.5 m(^2)).

Circular 20/2016/TT-BXD replaces Circular 08/2014/TT-BXD.
