On September 11, 2020, the Government of Vietnam issued Resolution 128/NQ-CP on tasks and solutions to promote the development of key economic regions.
According to Resolution 128/ND-CP, to meet the requirements of the 4.0 technological scientific revolution, each key economic region in Vietnam should prioritize the development of several sectors and industries as follows:
- The Northern Key Economic Region focuses on building high-quality human resource training centers; developing high-tech industries and high-tech services; banking, finance; specialized healthcare; and supporting industries.
- The Central Key Economic Region focuses on marine tourism, eco-tourism; automobile manufacturing and assembly; the petrochemical industry; the defense industry; and seaport services.
- The Southern Key Economic Region focuses on the manufacturing and assembly of electrical and electronic products; processing and manufacturing industries; digital economy; banking and finance; and real estate.
- The Mekong Delta Key Economic Region focuses on modern large-scale agricultural production; organic agriculture; high-efficiency agriculture, optimizing agricultural value; development of breeding technology; and processing and preservation of agricultural and aquatic products.
