This is a notable content of Circular 20/2020/TT-BGDDT of the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training on the working policies of lecturers at higher education institutions effective on September 11, 2020.
According to Circular 20/2020/TT-BGDDT, the standard teaching hours are the unit of time converted from the necessary working hours required to complete a certain workload equivalent to one theoretical lesson at the higher education level, either conducted in a classroom (or online), including the necessary working hours before, during, and after the lesson.
The norms of standard teaching hours for lecturers in one academic year is stipulated from 200 to 350 standard teaching hours, equivalent to 600 to 1,050 administrative hours (currently 270 standard hours); teaching hours at classrooms (or online) must ensure a minimum of 50% of the stipulated norm.
The head of the higher education institution shall base on the objectives and development strategy of the unit; the specifics of the subject, discipline, and the unit's specific conditions to decide the appropriate norms of standard teaching hours for the lecturers in one academic year.
